Although Gardair<\/strong> and Vote<\/strong> live together, their studios are in different locations and have distinctly diverse <\/strong>artistic practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Julien Gardair<\/strong>\u2019s recent paintings reveal his innovative approach to art.  Drawing inspiration from the Supports\/Surfaces<\/strong> movement in France and the Pattern\/Decoration<\/strong> movement in the United States, Gardair<\/strong>\u2019s art is a fusion of materiality<\/strong> and pattern<\/strong>, along with the structural constraints of Minimalism<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These multi-faceted<\/strong> pieces are a synthesis of vibrant paintings and textile<\/strong> works and are created by employing techniques like folding, cutting<\/strong>, and stitching<\/strong>. His work challenges the viewer\u2019s perception of materiality. His sustainable<\/strong> approach ensures that no parts<\/strong> of the paintings are discarded,<\/strong> nodding to the global potential of restoration<\/strong> and upcycling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Melanie Vote embarks on a visual exploration of impermanence<\/strong>, emphasizing the ever-changing nature of existence and inviting her viewers to be transported into her forest experiences<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vote\u2019s deep connection with trees is palpable<\/strong> and invites reflection on our relationship with the natural world<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Raised on a farm<\/strong> in Iowa<\/strong> and now a long-time resident of New York City, her paintings delve into the intricate<\/strong> relationship<\/strong> between humans<\/strong> and the land<\/strong>, linking her formative and present influences in nature<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each of Vote\u2019s intimately<\/strong> sized paintings in this exhibition begins en plein air<\/strong> and the artist later weaves subtle narration<\/strong> to the work in the studio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
