After the Fall (2017)
oil on paper mounted on panel
This painting started in western Iowa, during the Summer of 2016. For a few weeks I was painting this massive centennial Maple tree from observation.
The vegetation underneath, protected by its shadow, was lush and untouched.
It was a place for people, birds, insects, and rodents to gather.
One day, a truck arrived.
In a few hours, the sun was intense, branches all around and only a stump was left.
In an instant the sense of the place completely changed and my feeling with it.
