Life Drawing I and II

Assignments:
1) Finish drawing from the Subcutaneous Landmarks Map, or if you have taken Life Drawing I with me and are in LDII, draw a skeleton from life and label the subcutaneous parts.

One Full linear Skeleton drawing 24 inches tall with subcutaneous landmarks labeled.

Both sections: create a 9 step Value Scale in sketch book with graphite. Then select one of  drawings by Ribera to copy in sketchbook. Due Feb 6thvalue-scales

First Sketchbook assignment: FOUR DRAWINGS:
Choose two Master Drawings to copy from pgs 16-23 from the textbook, make sure to include anatomical notes. Scaling-Up
And two Architectonic/Geometrical Ribcage drawings from the above PDF.

LD II
On 18x24in paper create a linear drawing of a torso with emphasis on Rib Cage.
You may draw from any of the casts at school or yourself.  Remember, it must be from LIFE.
This drawing will be in preparation for an X-ray drawing, though for now focus on the exterior view only.

Select Five or more figure drawings created in class.
Scan or Photocopy drawing then alter their size.
Organize them in space using linear perspective.
Create a multi-figural composition with them(either collage them or play with them in Photoshop), Make sure the composition is balanced, unified and compelling. Redraw the entire composition on a new piece of paper

Alter Ego Drawing

If you could be anyone else who would it be?

Is your alter ego someone infamous? Would you adopt the persona of a historical figure, a character from mythology or fiction or every day life in a different profession? Would you change genders or simply your wardrobe? We have all identified with other personalities. You will describe yourself as your alter ego in the drawing. Consider the

outward signs that define a person. This may involve confronting and exposing issues of cultural stereotyping. How do we recognize each other? How do we recognize ourselves if pretending to be someone else.

Activities

1. We will begin by studying the basic proportion and structure of the human head.

2. Choose an alter ego to explore. Write about the visual qualities that define that person.

3. Research the character further.   Finding images that relate to the details of their persona.

4. Draw preliminary version to work with. This first version and we will look at this in class November 30th.

5. Start the actual final drawing and show in an in progress critique Dec. 7th
